# César will try again for the Olympic standard

**On January 17th, César Lizano came within eight seconds of qualifying for his second Olympic Games. He had said it was his last shot, his final attempt to go to Rio 2016, but coming so close to the goal has made him change his mind: in April he will run the Rotterdam Marathon in pursuit of the Olympic standard.**

2:19:00 is the magic number. 2:19:08 is what he clocked in Houston a few weeks ago. "After the result in Houston there is a spirit of redemption," César said in a press release. He added that his children are an additional motivation and he wants to set an example for them that one must fight until the end to achieve dreams. "There is a phrase that motivates me a lot: 'I thought about giving up but then I noticed that someone was following in my footsteps.' I want my children to see that one must fight until the end for their dreams and goals no matter how difficult they are," the athlete said when explaining his decision to try again.

After analyzing three possible marathons in April, César and his coach Andrew Kastor decided that the Rotterdam Marathon is the best option to pursue the Olympic standard. "This marathon was a world record, it is a fairly flat marathon, with positive and favorable conditions, and the group of runners is much better than Paris and Hamburg; plus the topography and climate are very pleasant," César explained. The Rotterdam Marathon will be on April 10th, so César will have just eight weeks to prepare. One advantage is that César already ran the Rotterdam Marathon in 2011 and knows the place and the course.

We wish César the best in his new attempt to qualify for Rio 2016. It would be great to see a Costa Rican in the Olympic Games marathon again.
