# Jenny Méndez failed to achieve the Olympic standard in Mexico

**Athlete Jenny Méndez, who is now officially Costa Rican, failed in her third attempt to qualify for the marathon at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games after finishing today's Lala Marathon (Mexico) in 2:53:03, more than eight minutes above the 2:45:00 time that would have qualified her.**

This is Méndez's third attempt to achieve the Olympic standard after running the Marine Corps Marathon in October last year in 2:45:56 (the closest she has come to the standard) and the Houston Marathon just six weeks ago, in which she finished with a time of 2:48:34.

Her husband and coach, Daniel Gaviria, told the newspaper La Nación that this will not be Méndez's last attempt to achieve the standard, and that they already have plans to run the Madrid Marathon on April 24th next, which would be her fourth marathon in less than six months.
