# Lindora Run: Course Analysis, Tips and More

**Tomorrow will be the fifth edition of the very popular Lindora Run. Once again, registrations sold out weeks before the event and 3,500 athletes will take to the streets of Santa Ana to run those famous 10k and 21k races with their new Adidas shirts. The most popular distance continues to be 10k, with about 2,100 participants, but the half marathon has solidified and now almost 1,400 will run it.**

If you want to have your best Lindora Run, run well, arrive on time and enjoy, we suggest you follow these tips:

**If you're going to run the half marathon**, it will be vital that you save your best energy for the finish. To achieve this, it will be key that you start the race intelligently; this means beginning at a comfortable pace, without spending too much energy because, otherwise, you'll suffer a lot when the kilometers get tougher. There are three relevant climbs in the half marathon: right at the start, from kilometer 1 to 5, the first climb occurs. It's long (4k) but moderate; if you push too hard on this first stretch, you'll probably have serious problems when you face the second relevant climb between kilometers 7 and 10. This is perhaps the most difficult stretch of the race, with the steepest hills as you head back toward downtown Santa Ana. The good news is that once you get past this stretch, there are seven kilometers of gentle downhill, which will be a blessing for you to recover and to improve the pace you lost on the hills. Don't get too excited, though, because you still need to save enough energy to face the last four kilometers of the race, which are uphill. It's more of a false flat, that is a very slight uphill that could be confused with flat terrain, but it is uphill after all and it's the last four kilometers, the toughest, when your legs no longer respond the same way and when the sun has started to melt your spirit (see chart below).

**If you're going to run the 10k** you can venture to start faster, but always with the care not to overdo it. According to Lindora Run's creator, José Núñez, for the first time in the five years of Lindora Run, 10k runners won't have to worry much about the heat because the start will be at 5:40 a.m. and most athletes will have finished by the time the sun starts to heat up. The elevation profile is not as difficult as it will be for the half marathon runners. The 10k only has a moderate climb at the start, between kilometers 1 and 3.5, and then at the very end a very slight climb during the final two kilometers (see chart below). The most favorable stretch will be between kilometers 3.5 and 7.5, where you should take advantage to improve your pace and recover what you lost on the initial climb.

Another vital point will be **staying well hydrated**. This is even more important for those running the half marathon, although if you run 10k you shouldn't underestimate the importance of staying well hydrated. The 21k runners will have eight hydration stations on the course, three of them with Powerade, and the 10k runners will have four hydration stations with water only. In total the organization will have 100,000 water bottles (28 bottles per athlete on average) and 50,000 cups of Powerade. As always, we invite you to be responsible and keep your bottles and dispose of them in an appropriate place, NOT on the street.

On race day it will be a good idea** to arrive with plenty of time**, at least an hour before according to Núñez. There will be free parking inside the shopping center for 600 cars, but access closes at 5:20 a.m., so if you want parking you'll have to arrive early. Also, **for the first time Lindora Run will have starting corrals** according to participants' times. This is another reason for you to arrive on time and position yourself in the corral that corresponds to you. If not, you'll end up at the back of the pack and lose valuable seconds in case you run faster than the slower runners.

You can see the elevation profile and detailed map of each route by clicking on the charts above. We also invite you to fill yourself with good advice for running in our [**Train**](../../../Training).

Good luck to everyone at Lindora Run 2016, let's go and run!!!
