# Nery achieves the best time of her life ahead of Rio 2016

**Nery Brenes managed to run today the 400 meters fastest of his life and set a new national and Central American record by taking first place at the IAAF World Meeting in Madrid with a time of 44.60 seconds. The best time Nery had achieved until now was 44.65, which he clocked when winning the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara back in 2011, five years ago.**

His path since then has not been easy at all, and there were those who commented that Nery had already passed his best moments. After many attempts and a change of coach, Nery gave a first warning that he still has much to give last year at the North, Central America and Caribbean tournament (NACAC) that was held in Costa Rica in August. On that occasion he ran the second best time of his life with 44.80.

This year his best time had been 45.47, on June 3rd at the Meeting in Huelva, Spain, which did not give much hope for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games since 44 athletes have run faster than that this 2016. With his new record of 44.60 Nery jumps to being the eighth fastest man of the season and raises his candidacy to even qualify for the 400 meters final at Rio 2016.

Nery started on May 15th a training camp at the High Performance Center in Barcelona, which culminates with this great race or possibly another one that he will likely run this week in Switzerland. The athlete from Limón will return to Costa Rica on June 28th to continue his preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
