# Test: How competitive are you as a runner?

**Take the following test to find out how competitive you are as a runner. If you agree with a statement and it shows (-1) subtract a point, (+1) add a point, (+2) add two points.**

1. Add your first point simply for reading an article about competitiveness.

2. If there are one or several runners near you with 50 meters left to the finish line:

- a. You maintain your pace to arrive comfortably at the finish line (-1).
- b. You speed up a little to see if you can pass them (+1).
- c. You accelerate to the max and cross the finish line throwing up just to beat everyone (+2).

3. While training you occasionally fantasize about winning a race or beating someone in particular (+1).

4. ALWAYS when you train you're thinking about beating others, in deadly sprints to the finish line and winning (+2).

5. Before the start of a race:

- a. you look for the best position possible (+1).
- b. it doesn't matter to you or you deliberately position yourself at the back of the pack (-1).

6. You usually chat during races (-1). (If what you're "chatting" about is trash talk with another athlete you're competing against, don't subtract this point and instead add one more).

7. When you train in a group you tend to pick up the pace without meaning to even though the workout should be easy (+1).

8. You never wear a watch because you don't care about times (-1).

9. You have at least one friend or acquaintance you'd like to beat in a race (+1).

10. If anything, you have friends just to tell them you're going to crush them in every race (+2).

11. If you don't manage to improve your time in a race, it doesn't matter to you (-1).

12. Your main goal in a race is:

- a. To have fun and make friends (-1).
- b. To improve times or reach longer distances (+1).
- c. To win and leave everyone else in the dust (+2).

13. When you talk with your runner friends:

- a. You joke and remember the nice things from each race (-1).
- b. You challenge each other and make bets for the next race (+1).
- c. You don't have friends anymore from rubbing all your wins in their faces (+2).

**-6 to 0: You're a happy recreational runner**. You don't know or don't care to know what competing is, you run to pass the time, maybe for health, but you have zero interest in your times and beating other people.

**1 to 5: You're not very competitive**. You don't like competing with runner friends or have much interest in improving times and achieving new records. You run to have a good time.

**6 to 10: You have a healthy level of competitiveness**. You enjoy improving your times and achieving new goals, as well as joking around with your buddies and occasionally beating them in a race.

**11 to 14: You're a competitive beast**. You were born to compete, you live it, you feel it and you want it every moment. Be careful because your competitiveness is leaving you without friends (but who needs friends if all that matters is wiiiiiinnnnniiiiing!!!!!) (Please use your sense of humor here).
