Gustavo Mora is the current National Champion in the 10-kilometer distance after winning the Under Armour race on November 29th. This Sunday our champion will compete against some of the world's best runners in the World's Best 10k, in Puerto Rico.

The race is perhaps the most prestigious in the world at the 10k distance; last year almost 10,000 people participated and the winner ran a time of 28:51. The course is very flat and fast, so much so that in 17 editions all winners have always broken 29 minutes. The men's record stands at an impressive 27:19, while the women's record is none other than the current world record of 30:19 set by Paula Radcliff in 2003.

Despite the heat and humidity typical of San Juan, Gustavo will run with the goal of improving his personal best of 31:57. "I've trained enough, I've trained conscientiously hoping to get a good result in Puerto Rico," said Mora. "I really hope to break my personal record, hopefully under 31 minutes," detailed the athlete, who will take advantage of the quality of the athletes present to reach his goal.

Part of the large turnout of elite athletes is due to the event's prize money: the winner takes home $25,000, and if they break 28 minutes for men or 31 minutes for women they receive a $10,000 bonus. Anyone who dares to break the race record will be rewarded with an additional $100,000 for their effort.
